MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Washington University softball team recorded two more wins Friday to extend its winning streak to 10 consecutive games.
The No. 10 nationally ranked Vikings defeated Western Oregon 11-4 and Simon Fraser 3-0 at WOU Softball Field to improve to 11-4 on the season. After opening the season 1-4, the 2024 national runner-up Vikings have gone on a tear winning their last 10 games while out-scoring opponents 71-16.
In Friday's two games the Vikings were led by junior first baseman Olivia Matlock going 4-for-7 with a double and six RBI, capping a four-game trip to Oregon where the Saint Martin's transfer went 7-for-13 (.538) with 11 RBI. Sophomore third baseman Maleah Andrews went 3-for-6 with three walks recording a hit in each game to extend her hitting streak to 12 consecutive games.
WWU's pitching staff continued to shine limiting the Wolves and Red Leafs to four runs in the two games. Senior Joie Baker fired a 2-hit shutout in the win over Simon Fraser to improve to 5-2 on the season with a 2.07 ERA.
The Vikings extended their winning streak over Western Oregon to six consecutive games dating back to last year with the 11-4 victory in the first game of the day.
WWU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first two at-bats, with Maleah Andrews plating a pair of runs with a double and Kanilehua Pitoy driving in a run with a single.
WOU cut the deficit to one run scoring three runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning of WWU starter Alli Kimball.
The Vikings broke the game open in the top of the 4th inning scoring five runs with Pitoy driving in another run with a single and Olivia Matlock drilling a three-run double to right-center field.
WWU scored in double-digits for the third consecutive game while tallying at least 10 hits in five of the last six games. Matlock went 3-or-4 with four RBI, Andrews was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Pitoy went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Lexi Barcomb went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Kaiana Kong earned the win in relief allowing one run on two hits in 3.0 innings, striking out four batters. She entered the game when WWU was leading 5-3 and shut down any chance of a Wolves comeback. Freshman Gracie Huston closed out the win with 2.0 scoreless innings.

The WWU softball program begins its 33rd season in 2025 while coming off a historic 52-12 season in 2024. The Vikings claimed their third GNAC title by winning the 2024 postseason tournament at Viking Field and advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships for the sixth time in program history. Playing on its home field in the NCAA postseason for the first time, WWU won its first West Regional title defeating Cal State San Marcos in the sub-regional and Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Super Regional. The historic season ended playing in the national championship series as part of the NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival in Longwood, Florida. WWU has posted a winning record 21 times during the 32-year history of the program, which won the 1998 NAIA National Championship in only its sixth season to record the school's first ever team national title.
