ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Western Washington University women's golf team wrapped up its second spring tournament placing 9th out of 19th teams at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park South Course.
WWU shot a final round team score of 23-over-par 311, eight strokes more than Monday's opening round, to slip two spots on the team leaderboard to finish in 9th place at 38-over-par 614.
Junior Emma Worgum shot season-low round of even-par 72 to climb the leaderboard into a tie for 14th place in the 103-player field that competed Monday and Tuesday in the 36-hole tournament. Worgum recorded two birdies and two bogeys in her even-par round Tuesday and finished the tournament playing the par 3 holes at Corica Park at 1-under-par to tie for the lead in the field.
"Great playing by Emma today. When the course got tougher…she got even tougher," said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "It was great to see her birdie her last hole to shoot even par in her round."
Junior Lauren F. Lee finished in a tie for 35th place breaking her string of three consecutive top-10 finishes, shooting 9-over-par 81 in Tuesday's final round after an even-par 72 on Monday.
Freshman Kenzie Walsh (T48, +12, 156), junior Kasey Maralack (T48, +12, 156) and freshman Kiana Schroeder (103, +38, 182) rounded out the five Vikings that competed in the tournament.
"It was a grind today fort the team with lots of ups and downs and unfortunately a tough finish," added Bennett.
Tournament host Cal State East Bay won its home tournament for the third consecutive season with a two-stroke victory over Cal State LA finishing at 7-over-par 583. Cal State LA (+9, 585), Cal State San Marcos (+15, 591), Biola (+16, 592) and Simon Fraser (+16, 592) rounded out the top five in the field.
Madison Murr of Cal State San Marcos won a one-hole playoff to take home individual medalist honors after completing the 36-hole tournament tied with Daniela Andrade of Cal State LA at 5-under-par 139.
The Vikings return to spring tournament action March 31-April 1 at the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational in Tucson, Arizona.

The WWU women's golf team enters its 32nd season as an intercollegiate sport in 2024-25. WWU has a rich history on the links, winning the first five GNAC Championships beginning in 2011 and returned to the podium with back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. WWU made its 12th appearance in the NCAA II West Regional Championships in 2022 after earning the GNAC's automatic bid. WWU has also made six trips to the NCAA II National Championships. A Viking has been named the GNAC Player of the Year in nine of the 12 years it has been awarded, including 2021-22 award winner Megan Billeter. WWU has also produced the only two players in GNAC history to earn four First Team All-GNAC awards (Jenn Paul and Kristen Hansen) and has had nine All-Americans.
