TACOMA, Wash. – The Western Washington University Track & Field was back in action to continue the outdoor season Friday and Saturday in the PLU Invitational.
The Vikings recorded 10 event wins, with seven by the men's squad and three by the women's team. The Western throwers continued their early-season success recording a win in six of the eight throwing events.
Freshman
Kathryn Chapin notched a program top 10 mark in the hammer throw placing 2nd with a toss of 47.06m/154-4 for the No. 6 mark in WWU history. Chapin and junior
Mara Parks (46.21m/151-7) finished 2-3 in the event.
Freshman
Jessica Polkinghorn was a double winner pacing the field in the shot put (14.06m/46-1.5) and winning the javelin with a personal-best throw of 39.98m/131-1 for the No. 2 mark in the GNAC this season. WWU held the top four spots in the shot put with Chapin 2nd (12.31m/40-4.75) and Parks 3rd (11.56m/37-11.25).
Senior
Katie Potts continues to find her form in her final collegiate season winning the discus with a throw of 44.23m/145-1 to go two-for-two in wins in her marquee event this season.
The men's throwing group had a solid showing as well with junior
Angelo Ramos winning the hammer throw with a toss of 55.04m/180-7 and placing 2nd in the shot put (13.70m/44-11.5).
Sophomore
Liam Wall on the discus with a throw of 46.35m/152-1 and sophomore
Noah Turner placed first in the shot put with an outdoor PR of 15.61m/51-2.75. Turner also recorded a PR in the discus placing 3rd with a throw of 43.53m/142-10. Senior
Miller Campbell was 2nd in the hammer with a throw of 53.80m/176-6.
Freshman
Augustas Haynes was a double winner in the hurdle events taking the top spot in the 110m event (15.94) and 400m hurdles (57.60). WWU had the top four finishers in the 400m hurdles with sophomore
Ethan Hong (58.01), freshman
Kaden Miller (58.44) and
Owen Windrope (59.04) placing just behind Haynes.
Additional event wins included
Derek Fischer in the 100m (10.96) and sophomore
Sten Brakstad in the 1500m (4:07.79).
WWU's pole vault event group also had a strong showing with freshman
Isaiah Cummings placing 2nd matching his season-best clearance of 4.12m/13-6.25 and junior
Aidan Klein finishing 3rd clearing 3.97m/13-0.25.
Team scoring had the Viking men winning with 155.0 points and the WWU women placing 3rd with 98.0 points.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING
The Vikings swept the team titles at the 2025 GNAC Indoor Championships earning the title of conference indoor champions for the second consecutive season. Dating back to the 2022 calendar year, the WWU men have won nine of 10 possible titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor, while the women have combined for seven of 10 titles. The Western track & field and cross country program has a current string of 12 consecutive team titles across men's and women's dating back to the 2023 outdoor championships.
