GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Western Washington University men's golf team opened its spring break trip to Arizona placing 10th out of 14 teams in the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout at the Golf Club of Estrella.
The tournament was a one-day, 36-hole event hosted by defending national champion Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines. The No. 1 ranked CCU Cougars ran away with the team title shooting 35-under-par 541 for the day for a 17-stroke victory over Colorado Mesa (-18, 558).
WWU was led by senior David Sibbett tying for 14th place in the 77-player field at 3-under-par 141 with rounds of 72 (even par) and 69 (3-under-par). Freshman Ryan Vest tied for 30th place highlighted by a collegiate low round of 4-under-par 68 in the morning, finishing the day at 1-over-par 145. Freshman Michael Killmer (+5, 149) and junior Peter Dionne-Yahr (+6, 150) rounded out the top four for the Vikings.
Adam Duncan of Colorado Christian, the No. 2 ranked golfer in NCAA II via the Clippd rankings, won individual medalist honors finishing at 12-under-par 132 with rounds of 65 (-7) and 67 (-5). Cole Beyer of Colorado Mesa (65-69) and Easton Hether of Cal State East Bay (66-68) tied for runner-up at 10-under-par 134.

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 25 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season. WWU placed 3rd at the 2013 national championship for the highest finish in program history and made its 10th trip to the National Championship Finals in 2023 placing 15th. The program has produced 16 NCAA All-Americans and has won 11 of 16 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in 10 of 16 tournaments with Jordan Lee joining the elite list of conference champions in 2023 and nine GNAC Player of the Year awards.
