GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Western Washington University men's golf team wrapped up a successful spring break trip to Arizona placing 4th out of 14 teams at The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate.
WWU shot a final round team score of 3-under-par 285 to record the top five finish in a 14-team field consisting of five nationally-ranked teams.
The Vikings were the top finishing team among the West Region, defeating Cal State East Bay, Stanislaus State Northwest Nazarene and Hawai'i Pacific which will be key for the regional rankings. WWU entered the tournament listed No. 10 in the West Region, with the top 10 teams advancing to the NCAA postseason.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament featured the first two rounds competed at Verrado Golf Club in Buckeye, Arizona, with Tuesday's final round at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear.
"We came down here needing a solid week, and even though it started slow, the guys finished on a strong note with a top five finish in a strong field," said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "We'll look to build on this result as we get ready for the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational in two weeks."
Reigning GNAC Golfer of the Week David Sibbett had a strong showing in Arizona capped by a tie for 5th place finish in The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate at 5-under-par 211. Sibbett played his final 36 holes in the tournament at 8-under-par with matching scores of 4-under-par 68.
"Another awesome tournament for David, making an immediate impacted for the team since arriving in the lineup," added Bennett.
Sophomore Nick Ennis tied for 23rd place in the 78-player field at 5-over-par 221, capped by a 3-under-par 69 in the final round. Freshman Ryan Vest tied for 31st at 7-over-par 223 (75-74-74) and junior Peter Dionne-Yahr tied for 40th at 10-over-par 226 (74-78-74). All five Vikings finished in the top 50 with freshman Michael Killmer tying for 46th at 11-over-par 227 (77-75-75).
Western finished three strokes ahead of 5th-place Fort Lewis, and trailed No. 1 nationally ranked Colorado Christian (-33, 831), Colorado Mesa (+3, 867) and Westminster (+6, 870). The defending national champion Colorado Christian Cougars won their eighth tournament of the 2024-25 season in nine starts.
Adam Duncan of Colorado Christian shared individual medalist honors to record a victory in his second consecutive tournament finishing at 11-under-par 205, tying Cole Byer of Colorado Mesa.

The Vikings are back in April 14-15 closing out the regular season portion of the schedule at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational at Turlock Golf & Country Club in Turlock, California. The GNAC Championships will be held April 21-22 at the Coeur d'Alene Golf Resort in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 25 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season. WWU placed 3rd at the 2013 national championship for the highest finish in program history and made its 10th trip to the National Championship Finals in 2023 placing 15th. The program has produced 16 NCAA All-Americans and has won 11 of 16 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in 10 of 16 tournaments with Jordan Lee joining the elite list of conference champions in 2023 and nine GNAC Player of the Year awards.
