AUSTIN & SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Western Washington University Track & Field throws crews wrapped up a successful trip to Texas competing in a pair of meets in the Lone Star State.
WWU had a contingent of student-athletes compete in the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State in San Marcos and the Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas in Austin.
Freshman
Jessica Polkinghorn led the performances winning the B section of the shot put competition at the Bobcat Invite, recording her second-best mark of the season at 14.41m/47-3.5.
Senior
Katie Potts placed 8th in the A section of the discus with a throw of 42.32m/138-10 and was 10th in the B section of the shot put with a season-best mark of 13.06m/42-10.5.
Sophomore
Noah Turner wrapped up the fine performances by the Vikings placing 4th out of 40 competitors in the B section of the men's shot put recording an outdoor PR of 16.15m/53-0 to tie for 4th-best in WWU outdoor history.
Junior
Diego Rodriguez was the lone non field athlete to compete for the Vikings placing 8th in the B section of the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 9:45.94, just off his PR of 9:45.42. Rodriguez is a native of San Antonio.

JAVELIN THROWERS COMPETE IN AUSTIN
WWU had three men's javelin throwers compete at the Texas Relays in Austin, led by junior
Jakob Braunstein placing 11th in the A flight of the competition on Friday. Braunstein had a top throw of 63.62m/208-9 to narrowly miss advancing to the final of the event. Braunstein entered the meet ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II with a season-best throw of 66.86m/219-4. In Thursday's B flight of the javelin, junior
Andrew Nelson placed 3rd with a season-best mark of 57.73m/189-5 and senior
Sean Witters was 5th with a throw of 55.16m/181-0.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING
The Vikings swept the team titles at the 2025 GNAC Indoor Championships earning the title of conference indoor champions for the second consecutive season. Dating back to the 2022 calendar year, the WWU men have won nine of 10 possible titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor, while the women have combined for seven of 10 titles. The Western track & field and cross country program has a current string of 12 consecutive team titles across men's and women's dating back to the 2023 outdoor championships.
