TUCSON, Ariz. – Led by another top 10 finish from junior Lauren F. Lee, the Western Washington University women's golf team opened its Arizona trip placing 14th out of 19 teams at the WT Desert Invitational.

 

The Vikings recorded a team score of 98-over-par 674 in the two-day, 36-hole tournament hosted by West Texas A&M University at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon. WWU opened the tournament Monday with a 48-over-par 336 and concluded play with a 50-over-par 338.

 

Lee notched her fifth top-10 finish in seven tournament this season, tying for 8th place in the 99-player field. Lee opened play with a 9-over-par 81 and finished the tournament with a 3-over-par 75 with three birdies.

 

Junior Kasey Maralack (+22, 80-86=166) tied for 42nd place and junior Emma Worgum (+34, 92-86=178) rounded out the Vikings top three finishers.

 

St. Mary's of Texas won the team title at 53-over-par 629 for a nine-stroke victory over tournament host West Texas A&M and Cal State San Marcos at 62-over-par 638. Avery Foster of Sonoma State won individual medalist honors at 8-over-par 152 earning a one-stroke victory over Gam Songprasert of West Texas A&M and Savannah Dupre of St. Mary's.

 

WWU is back in action Friday-Saturday at the Palm Valley Classic at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona. The GNAC Championships will be held April 21-22 at the Coeur d'Alene Golf Resort in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
