Vikings in 2nd Through First Day at GNAC Championships

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – The Western Washington University men's golf team is in second place through the first two rounds of the 2025 GNAC Golf Championships at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course.

 

With the weather improving throughout the 36-hole day, the Vikings ended the first round tied for second after a 17-over-par 301 and improved by 15 strokes in the afternoon for a 2-over-par 286. WWU enters Tuesday's final round eight shots back of first place Simon Fraser (+11, 579) and five shots in front of third place Northwest Nazarene (+24, 592).

 

Sophomore Nick Ennis paced the Vikings in his second GNAC Championships tournament after tying for 6th place last season with Saint Martin's. Ennis carded an opening round 2-over-par 73 and finished the day with a 2-under-par 69 with five birdies, including the last two holes.

 

Freshman Michael Killmer is tied for 7th place in the 25-player field at 4-over-par 146 (76-70) while carding a 1-under-par 70 in the afternoon round. Junior Peter Dionne-Yahr moved up the leaderboard with an even-par 71 in the afternoon to sit in a tie for 9th place at 6-over-par 148. Reigning GNAC Player of the Week David Sibbett is tied for 14th place at 9-over-par 151. Dionne-Yahr, Ennis and Killmer all tallied seven birdies during the first two rounds to tie for second-most in the tournament field.

 

Ben Mulder of Northwest Nazarene holds the lead for individual medalist honors at 4-under-par 138 following matching 2-under-par rounds of 69.

THE FINAL ROUND

Tuesday's final round tees off at 7:30 am with the final 18 holes deciding the 2025 conference champion. WWU's tee times begin at 8:14 am on hole 10. The Vikings are aiming for their 12th conference championships title. Fans can track the final round via the Golfstat Live Leaderboard.

ABOUT WWU MEN'S GOLF

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 25 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season. WWU placed 3rd at the 2013 national championship for the highest finish in program history and made its 10th trip to the National Championship Finals in 2023 placing 15th. The program has produced 16 NCAA All-Americans and has won 11 of 16 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in 10 of 16 tournaments with Jordan Lee joining the elite list of conference champions in 2023 and nine GNAC Player of the Year awards.
