RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Western Washington University men's golf team wrapped up another successful season placing 14th at the NCAA II West/South Central Super Regional held May 8-10 at Victoria Club.
Qualifying for the regional championships for the 26th consecutive season, the Vikings made a surge up the leaderboard with a 10-under-par 278 in Friday's second round and looked to contend for one of the six qualifying spots for nationals in the final round before dropping to finish in 14th place in the 20-team field completing play at 10-under-par 854 (285-278-291).
WWU was led by a top 20 finish by junior captain Peter Dionne-Yahr, completing the 54-hole tournament at 5-under-par 211. Dionne-Yahr climbed into a tie for 5th place in the 105-player field through the first two rounds with a 4-under-par 68 in the opening round and 6-under-par 66 in the second round. He shot a final round 5-over-par 77 to earn the top 20 finish.
Sophomore Christopher Zamani tied for 47th place at 2-under-par 214 (70-71-73), sophomore Nick Ennis finished tied for 65th at 1-over-par 217 (75-72-70) and senior David Sibbett completed a strong spring season tying for 65th at 1-over-par 217 (72-69-76). Freshman Michael Killmer competed in his first NCAA regional tournament in 101st place at 9-over-par 225.
The top six teams in the final standings punched their ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida (May 19-23). No. 1 nationally ranked and defending national champion Colorado Christian won the super regional with a team score of 46-under-par 818 with Oklahoma Christian earning team runner-up honors at 32-under-par 832. Cal State East Bay, St. Mary's (TX), host Cal State San Bernardino and West Texas A&M also earned a trip to the national tournament.
Oskari Nikku of Oklahoma Christian earned a three stroke victory for individual medalist honors at 17-under-par 199 with rounds of 9-under-par 63, 3-under-par 69 and 5-under-par 67. Colorado Christian had three players in the top five with Sangha Park earning runner-up honors at 14-under-par 202 (65-70-67).
WWU entered the regional as the No. 9 seed in the West Region after placing 2nd in the GNAC Championships.

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 26 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season. WWU placed 3rd at the 2013 national championship for the highest finish in program history and made its 10th trip to the National Championship Finals in 2023 placing 15th. The program has produced 16 NCAA All-Americans and has won 11 of 16 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in 10 of 16 tournaments with Jordan Lee joining the elite list of conference champions in 2023 and nine GNAC Player of the Year awards.
