Four Vikings Earn Spot on Academic All-District Team

WWU student-athletes earn academic awards for standout performance in classroom and competition

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University softball team had a successful season in competition reaching the NCAA Championship Tournament and was equally as impressive off the field with four players earning Academic All-District honors selected by College Sports Communicators.
 
Sophomores Maleah Andrews and Laila Carpenter and seniors Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez and McKenna Crum represented WWU on the Academic All-District team for 2025.
 
To qualify for the award nomination process, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.5 Cumulative GPA, compete in 90 percent of games or start in at least 66 percent of games.
 
Andrews (Shoreline, WA/Bothell HS) moves on to the Academic All-America ballot carrying a 3.83 GPA while pursuing a degree in public health. The third baseman was a consensus First Team All-American on the field batting .473 (87-for-184) with 64 runs scored, 23 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 42 RBI and a .578 on-base percentage.
 
Carpenter (Snohomish, WA/Glacier Peak HS) started 55 of 60 games in center field during the 2025 season batting .333 (52-for-156) with 38 runs scored, 11 doubles, three triples, one home run and was 9-for-12 stealing bases. The sophomore carries a 3.52 GPA while pursuing a degree in physical education.
 
Crum (Kennewick, WA/Southridge HS/Seattle U) will graduate in June with a degree in Biology and carries a cumulative GPA of 3.91. During the 2025 season she was the Vikings starting right fielder batting .310 (52-for-168) with 33 runs scored and tied for the team lead with 12 stolen bases. Her 28 career stolen bases as a Viking rank 10th in program history.
 
Andrewjeski-Ramirez (Kahlotus, WA/Connell HS/BYU) closed out her collegiate career batting .366 (60-for-164)  with 14 doubles, nine home runs and 59 RBI in 56 games in 2025. In the classroom she completed her history degree with a 3.62 GPA to earn All-District and All-GNAC academic honors. In two seasons as a Viking she clubbed 27 home runs to rank 2nd in program history and ranks 5th with 115 RBI.
 
ABOUT WWU SOFTBALL
The WWU softball program completed its 33rd season in 2025 going 47-13 and reaching the NCAA II World Series for the second consecutive season. The Vikings won the 2025 GNAC regular-season title with a 21-3 league record and claimed back-to-back GNAC Tournament titles in 2024 and 2025. WWU advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships for the seventh time in program history in 2025, reaching the national semifinals as one of four teams remaining in the 64-team bracket. WWU's historic 2024 season included hosting the regional and super regional rounds at Viking Field. The historic season ended playing in the national championship series as part of the NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival in Longwood, Florida. WWU has posted a winning record 22 times during the 33-year history of the program, which won the 1998 NAIA National Championship in only its sixth season to record the school's first ever team national title.
