BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head men's soccer coach Greg Brisbon continues to add to an already impressive recruiting class for the 2025 season announcing the addition of Swedish midfielder/winger Filip Karlsson to the program.
Karlsson becomes the ninth player to join the 2025 recruiting class that is set to debut at the collegiate ranks during the upcoming fall season.
The midfielder/winger hails from Stockholm, Sweden, where he will join forces with Swedish teammates senior winger Albin Jonsson (Skellefteå, Sweden) and senior defender Joar Tidblom (Norrkoping, Sweden).
Karlsson is a product of Hersby Gymnasium (high school) and the IFK Lidingö club program. During his most recent season he scored eight goals and added 10 assists. In addition to a standout in soccer, Karlsson grew up playing ice hockey.
"I chose WWU because I think the program fits me very well as a soccer player and as a person," said Karlsson. "The opportunity for me to play at WWU will make me show my best as a player and develop on the field during the next few years. I really like the coaches and know they can help me grow as a player and person. The team also has a good atmosphere, not only as great soccer players, but also very kind people which will make me have a great experience at WWU."
Here is a look WWU's nine-player recruiting class heading into the 2025 season:
