BELLINGHAM, Wash. – For the ninth time in program history and second year in a row the Western Washington University volleyball team has earned the prestigious AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT.
 
The Vikings qualified for the award by maintaining a year-long cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30. WWU finished the 2024-25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.55, a mark that ranked third in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference among volleyball programs.
 
WWU has qualified for the high-achieving academic award in consecutive seasons after earning the honor four consecutive years from 2018-21. The Vikings also won three straight awards from the America Volleyball Coaches Association from 2010-12.
 
"I'm very proud of our team as this is one of the highest cumulative team GPA's we have had in this program," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "They are keeping up the tradition of academics being the priority of their journey at Western, and their hard work in all aspects of being a student-athlete is paying off. Again, I am very proud of them!"
 
The Vikings tied a program record with nine student-athletes earning selection to the GNAC All-Academic team in 2024 and had four student-athletes celebrated as Academic All-District award winners.
 
WWU is less than a month away from the team reporting to campus for the 2025 season with WWU Invitational officially opening the season September 4-6 on WECU Court in Carver Gym.
