BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University volleyball team returned from Hawai'i with four key non-conference wins and a little hardware with a pair of Aloha State Showdown All-Tournament selections.

Junior outside hitter Delaney Speer was selected as the Tournament MVP and senior outside hitter Devyn Oestreich earned a spot on the six-player All-Tournament Team.

Speer (Maple Valley, WA) recorded a double-double in three of the four matches in Hawai'i, averaging 3.79 kills per set on an efficient .301 attack percentage. Speer also tallied 2.86 digs per set, recorded four blocks and had five service aces to total 60.0 points. Through the first seven matches of the season, the preseason All-GNAC selection has recorded four double-doubles, averaged 3.19 kills per set, 2.88 digs per set and recorded 99.5 total points. She was also selected to the WWU Invitational All-Tournament Team.

"Being selected as the tournament MVP is so well deserved for Delaney. I know she would pass the credit to her team, but she truly was dialed in and competed at a high level every match," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams.

Oestreich (Olympia, WA) continued her early-season rampage that has resulted in six double-doubles through the first seven matches, continuing her 2024 season that finished with six consecutive double-doubles. The GNAC Preseason Player of the Year averaged 3.43 kills and a team-best 4.21 digs per set during the Aloha State Showdown to earn All-Tournament honors. She was voted the WWU Invitational Most Outstanding Player when the Vikings went 2-1 to open the season in Carver Gym. Overall, she is averaging 4.19 kills and 3.85 digs per set, while hitting .331.

During the three-day tournament, the Vikings defeated UC Merced (3-1), No. 24 Chaminade (3-0), Hawai'i Hilo (3-1) and Hawai'i Pacific (3-0).

In addition to Oestreich and Speer earning All-Tournament honors in both the WWU Invitational and Aloha State Showdown, junior libero Finnley Claeys was a member of the WWU Invitational All-Tournament Team.

The Vikings completed their non-conference slate with a 6-1 record, going 3-1 against nationally-ranked teams. WWU heads into the 18-match Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule with a six-match winning streak and is the first team listed receiving votes just outside the national top 25 in the AVCA Division II Coaches poll.

Western remains on the road this weekend opening conference play at Northwest Nazarene on Thursday in Nampa, Idaho (7 pm MT/6 pm PT) and against rival Central Washington on Saturday in Ellensburg (1 pm). Both matches will stream live on the pay-per-view GNAC Network.
