Vikings Solid Start Continues With 3rd-Place Finish at WWU Invite

Rex Wilson and Conrad Brown Tie for 6th place in 81-player field

9/30/2025 6:49:00 PM

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's golf team put together another solid team performance finishing 3rd out of 14 teams at the 53rd Annual WWU Invitational held Monday-Tuesday at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.

The Vikings finished the 54-hole tournament at 8-under-par 856 with two of three rounds under par. Western's 9-under-par 279 in the final round tied Simon Fraser's final round for the low team score of the tournament. Through the first three tournaments of the 2025-26 season, WWU has carded eight of nine team rounds under par.

WWU and the 14-team tournament field battled a wet and windy 36 holes on Monday, giving way to picturesque fall conditions during Tuesday's final round. The Vikings placed behind tournament winner Simon Fraser (-14, 850) and UBC Okanagan (-11, 853). Western has recorded a pair of 3rd-place finishes and a share of a tournament title to open the season.

The Vikings played all 10 players on the roster in the tournament, with five as individuals. Junior Conrad Brown and sophomore Rex Wilson – both products of Burlington-Edison High School – led the Vikings tying for 6th place in the 81-player field at 5-under-par 211.

WWU's balance roster featured seven of 10 players in the top 25.

"I was impressed and proud of the way the group battled through tough conditions on Monday, and came out and had one of the best rounds of the tournament today," said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "We showed we have great team depth and that has created a great team dynamic. We've had three good tournament performances to start the season, setting us up for a great opportunity to cap the fall in a few weeks in Seaside."

Simon Fraser won the tournament title by a three-stroke margin over UBC Okanagan.

Ryan Vest (UBCO), Denby Carswell (SFU), Fisher Ransom (Vanguard) and Jacob Torres (Hawai'i Hilo) tied for individual medalist honors finishing at 7-under-par 209. Torres won the playoff on the third hole making a par on No. 18 to take home the hardware.
