SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Washington University volleyball team wrapped up the first half of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday falling to Seattle Pacific University 3-0 inside Royal Brougham Pavilion.
The Falcons defeated the Vikings 25-15, 25-23, 26-24 for the straight sets victory to improve to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in GNAC matches. SPU has won seven of its last eight matches and remained unbeaten at home going 5-0. WWU dropped to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in GNAC play.
After dropping the opening set 25-15, the Vikings held late leads in both the second and third sets, but couldn't hold off SPU down the stretch.
"We had some good moments today and now we need to attack the second half of conference play with the intent to do those things more consistently," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams.
Senior outside hitter Delaney Speer led the Vikings with 14.0 points contributing nine kills, 10 digs and five service aces. Sophomore pin hitter Aly Skagen paced the Vikings offense with 11 kills and senior middle Emily Vossenkuhl contributed eight kills on a .615 hitting percentage and tallied four blocks. Senior libero Finnley Claeys led all players in the match with 16 digs.
SPU was led by a 17-kill, 13-dig double-double by Megan Omlid and 10 kills each by Amaya Evans and Maiya Lester.
