WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Western Washington University women's golf team opened its two-tournament trip to Hawai'i placing seventh at the Punahele Jerky Company Invitational.

The Vikings shot a team score of 69-over-par 629 (318-311) on the par 70 Waikoloa Golf Resort, showing a seven-shot improvement from the first round on Monday to the final round on Tuesday.

Junior Heewon Pak paced the Vikings starting lineup earning a top 10 finish tying for eighth place in the 56-player field. Pak completed the 36-hole tournament at 8-over-par 148 with rounds of 6-over-par 76 and 2-over-par 72.

Freshman Natalie McLane turned in a top 20 finish at 14-over-par 154 with rounds of 80 (+10) and 74 (+4). Senior Shannon Berry (T38, +26, 86-80=166), freshman Natalie Edwards (T40, +28, 83-85=168) and junior Jadyn Gracie (45, +33, 79-94=173) rounded out the Vikings travel squad to the Big Island.

"Overall, as a team, we showed some improvement. However, we are continuing to struggle with putting together a solid round that reflects what we're capable of," said WWU Director of Golf Steve Card. "Heewon had a good tournament, finishing with a solid 72 today. Natalie (McLane) was able to find something with her swing and had a nice round today. We're looking forward to continuing to show improvement at the next event at Mauna Lani."

Tournament host Hawai'i Hilo shared team champion honors with Hawai'i Pacific at 35-over-par 595 and Seattle Pacific was three strokes back at 38-over-par 598. Zoe Garcia (SPU) and Kailee McKee (UHH) tied for individual medalist honors at 2-over-par 142.
