Vikings Record Road Sweep at Saint Martin's

WWU records third win in last four matches to improve to 10-9 overall, 7-6 in GNAC

LACEY, Wash. – The Western Washington University volleyball team went on the road and earned a 3-0 road sweep over Saint Martin's University Thursday evening in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action in Marcus Pavilion.

The Vikings avenged a 3-0 home loss to the Saints earlier this season, picking up their third win in the last four matches to improve to 10-9 overall and 7-6 in GNAC play. Playing on a new court in Marcus Pavilion for the first time this season, Saint Martin's dropped to 8-14 overall and 4-10 in conference play. Set scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-22 in favor of the Vikings.

Senior outside hitter Delaney Speer again paced the Vikings offense, recording her 14th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 12 digs. Speer also had three of the Vikings 13 service aces to finish with 19.0 points.

WWU recorded its second-highest hitting percentage of the season at .343, led by Speer hitting a scorching .640 not making an error on 25 attempts. Sophomore Aly Skagen finished with nine kills and freshman Jasmine Terry tallied eight kills.

The setter duo of senior Caroline Hansen and freshman Maya Quitiquit both dished out 17 assists, with Hansen also contributing three aces. Sophomore Chayse Flick-Williams added to her team lead in aces with three, giving her 35 on the season to rank second in the GNAC.

"This was a solid effort from the whole team. Delaney led the way with an outstanding performance. Not only did she hit for a high percentage, but she received a lot of serves, had great digs and served really well," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "Our service game set the tone, and it came from everyone on the back line. Maya and Caroline set a great balanced offense with one of our highest hitting percentages of the season. A great overall team effort."

Saint Martin's hit .330 in the match and was led by 16 kills from Emily Garten and 12 from Olivia Bassett.
