VISTA, Calif. – The Western Washington University continued its standout 2025-26 season opening the spring portion of the schedule winning the Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Golf Club.
The Vikings may have taken nearly four months away from competition during the winter break, but picked right up where the fall season ended earning back-to-back tournament victories. WWU ended the fall winning the Otter Invitational and put a winning team performance together Monday-Tuesday finishing the two-day, 54-hole tournament at even-par 864.
"This was a great performance from the guys. There's always the potential for a little winter rust, but they didn't let that slow them down," said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "Each player had to battle through some adversity, yet none of them ever gave up. This was an ideal way to kick off the spring season."
WWU featured three players in the top 10 in the 75-player field, led by freshman Henry Kippenhan tying for 4th place (-1, 215) and juniors Conrad Brown and Christopher Zamani tying for 7th place at even-par 216.
"Henry delivered a rock-solid tournament performance. He got off to a rough start on day one, but showed tremendous mental toughness and stayed steady and in control of his game over the final 50+ holes," added Bennett. "Christopher's play was steady throughout the tournament as well, and today's final round was absolutely top-notch."
The Vikings entered the tournament ranked No. 14 in the nation in the Clippd team rankings and No. 19 in the Bushnell/Golfweek DII Coaches Poll. In five tournaments in 2025-26, the Vikings have recorded three wins and a pair of third-place finishes.
In addition to the three players inside the top 10, senior captain Peter Dionne-Yahr tied for 18th at 3-over-par 219 and junior Rex Wilson tied for 52nd at 13-over-par 229.
WWU entered the final round tied for 3rd in the 13-team field but moved up the leaderboard in the final round overcoming Chico State and Cal State San Bernardino. The Vikings were strong down the stretch to hold off tournament host Cal State San Marcos for the three stroke victory.
