SEATTLE, Wash. – With the 2026 GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships set to take center stage Monday and Tuesday in Spokane, the Western Washington University Track & Field team had a small contingent compete at the two-day Husky Classic Friday-Saturday in Dempsey Indoor.

Sophomore thrower Calvin Gutierrez broke his own school record in the weight throw, becoming the first Viking and second GNAC athlete to cross the 19-meter mark in the event. Gutierrez won the 16-competitor competition with a throw of 19.37m/63-6.75 to break his previous record and PR of 18.92m/62-1 set at the Spokane Invitational in December. Gutierrez is 2nd in GNAC history in the event, narrowly trailing record holder Mark Warren of Western Oregon (19.42m/63-8.75). The Tulalip native and product of Mariner High School ranks No. 26 in NCAA Division II.

Junior Emmy Kroontje recorded a personal-best mark in the 800m (indoor or outdoor) running 2:08.70, breaking her old PR of 2:10.09 set two weeks ago at the UW Invite. Kroontje's time moved her to No. 10 on the NCAA II performance list, making her a solid candidate to compete at nationals. The Lynden native is just shy of the indoor school record of 2:08.57 set by former All-American Marian Ledesma in 2024.

Freshman Connor Inman placed 4th in the men's shot put and was the top Division II finisher with his personal-best mark of 16.74m/54-11.25. Inman remained at No. 2 in program history and No. 7 in the GNAC indoor record book. The Puyallup native is listed No. 31 on the updated NCAA II performance list.
