BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior thrower
Liam Wall has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his school-record performance over the weekend at the PLU Open.
Wall (Tumwater, WA) won the discus competition at the PLU Open with a throw of 55.27m/181-4, falling just short of the current GNAC record of 55.78m/183-0 set by Jake Night of Northwest Nazarene in 2019. Wall's big throw set the WWU record in the event, bettering the previous record of 54.07m/177-4 by Ryan Macdonald in 2015, and moved up to No. 3 in GNAC history. Wall's mark is also tops at the NCAA Division II level through the first two weeks of the 2026 outdoor season.
"After falling short of reaching NCAAs last season, Liam re-doubled his efforts this year and has done an incredible job learning our system by bringing intention to every practice and training session," said WWU throws coach
Damien Fisher. "His work ethic and drive are great examples for the group, and I am excited to see how he continues to improve through the season."
