RICHMOND, Calif. – Western Washington University senior Lauren F. Lee continued her historic season tying for individual runner-up honors at The Big Freeze, a two-day, 36-hole tournament hosted at Richmond Golf Club.
Lee tallied her fourth top five finish this season and second runner-up honor finishing the tournament at even-par 144. The senior fired rounds of 2-under-par 70 on Monday and 2-over-par 74 in Tuesday's final round to finish one stroke back of winner Kim Penzold of Menlo (-1, 143). Lee was coming off a tournament victory at the Fujikura Invitational and is ranked in the top 30 individually in NCAA Division II.
"Lauren played great all tournament and is having a remarkable senior season," said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "Today was a bit of a grind but she did a fantastic job staying up beat and in the moment."
Lee was the lone golfer in the 56-player field with multiple eagles during the tournament and played the par 5 holes at 6-under-par.
The Vikings placed 6th out of 10 teams in the tournament with a team score of 49-over-par 625, finishing five strokes back of GNAC rival Simon Fraser for a spot in the top five. Point Loma earned team medalist honors at 19-over-par 595 for an 11-stroke victory over tournament host Dominican (+30, 606).
WWU has one remaining regular-season tournament competing in the Palm Valley Classic April 3-4 in Goodyear, Arizona and then tees it up at the GNAC Championships April 20-22 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
