Vikings Compete at Pacific Multi in Oregon

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Western Washington University Track & Field multi athletes were in action Monday-Tuesday at the Pacific Multi, with five Vikings competing in the two-day meet at Hanson Stadium.
 
Sophomore Kaden Miller led the Viking men placing 3rd out of 13 competitors in the 10-event decathlon finish with 5,709 points and senior Nicole Avery placed 4th out of 15 competitors in the seven-event heptathlon with 4,094 points.
 
WWU had five total competitors in the meet hosted by Pacific University just outside of Portland.
 
Miller (Cashmere, WA) recorded three PR marks during the grueling 10-event competition recording personal-best marks in the discus (24.23m/79-6), 400m (51.28) and shot put (9.57m/31-4.75). He finished 2nd in the 1500m in 4:48.04 and had 3rd-place finishes in the pole vault (3.40m/11-1.75), long jump (6.24m/20-5.75) and 110m hurdles (15.61).
 
Freshman Cody Redford (Langley, WA) placed 6th with 5,436 points for a PR in the decathlon. Redford won the 1500m with a time of 4:46.52.
 
Avery (Pullman, WA) fell just short of her PR in the seven-event heptathlon with 4,094 points (PR is 4,137). The senior recorded a winning jump of 5.52m/18-1.5 in the long jump while placing 4th in the javelin (29.45m/96-7) and high jump (1.50m/4-11). Avery placed 5th at the GNAC Indoor Championships in the pentathlon (5 events) and was 6th in the heptathlon at last year's GNAC Outdoor Championships.
 
A pair of freshmen also competed for the Vikings with Khloe Huskic placing 11th with 3,254 points and Marisa Klaas placing 15th with 1,684 points.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE VIKS
The Vikings will have plenty of action during the remainder of spring break. All-American Bec Bennett will compete at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina, and a few Vikings will be in competition at the West Coast Relays over the weekend in Clovis, California. Western will send a group over the border Saturday and Sunday to compete in the UBC Open at the Rashpal Dhillon Oval in Vancouver.
