To celebrate Women's History Month, Western Washington University Athletics and the WWU Softball team welcomed a special member of the program to Saturday's game vs. Central Washington University to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Â
Marley Davis took to the circle at Viking Field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch to her daughter, All-American third baseman
Maleah Andrews. Davis was joined on the field by several women of family members and friends of WWU softball players to make the Women's History Month celebration memorable.
Â
Marley grew up in Richland, Washingto where she started playing softball in the 5th grade and was a standout three-sport athlete in high school, competing in volleyball, basketball, and soccer for Issaquah High School. She went on to attend WWU, arriving in the fall of 1986, where she helped start the first fastpitch club team laying the foundation for what would become WWU's softball program, now in its 34th season.
Â
After graduating from Western, Marley dedicated her career to education, teaching high school math while continuing to coach and mentor young athletes. She had an incredible 30-year run as the varsity volleyball coach at Bothell High School and coached many select softball and basketball teams. She continues to mentor the next generation by coaching middle school volleyball and running camps and clinics for young athletes.
