BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University hurdler
Ari Nguyen was selected as the GNAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week following her standout performance during the season-opening Ed Boitano Invitational.
Nguyen (Mercer Island, WA) was a double-winner in the Saturday meet hosted by the University of Puget Sound, earning the top spot in the 100m Hurdles (14.64) and the 400m Hurdles (1:04.12). Coming off a bronze medal performance in the 60m hurdles at the GNAC Indoor Championships, Nguyen continued to show her progress in her featured events setting a PR in the 100m hurdles to move up to No. 7 in WWU history. She also set a PR placing 6th in the 100m dash in a time of 12.56.
"Ari had a lot of momentum finishing the indoor season setting PRs in the 60 hurdles, 60 meters and 200 meters her last two meets of that season," said WWU head coach
Ben Stensland. "It is no surprise that she opened with PRs in both the 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles in her first outdoor meet. Ari and our hurdles coach, Laurent Birade, are expecting some exciting things this spring."
The Vikings continue the early-season indoor schedule this weekend at the PLU Open in Tacoma with events held Friday and Saturday.
