BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior third baseman
Maleah Andrews has been selected the GNAC Softball Player of the Week for games played April 6-12.
Andrews helped lead the Vikings to a four-game road series split at Montana State Billings by reaching base safely in 14 of 16 plate appearances. Andrews went 9-for-11 (.818) with six runs scored, one double, three home runs and seven RBI. She also drew four walks and had one hit-by-pitch for a .875 on-base percentage. The All-American third baseman was also perfect in the field in 13 chances.
For the season Andrews ranks third in the GNAC batting .439 (47-for-107), first in slugging percentage (.841) and second in on-base percentage (.567). She has a league-best 15 doubles, hit eight home runs and scored 41 runs.
A three-year starter for the Vikings, Andrews has combined to bat .416 (208-for-500) in 161 games with 162 runs scored, 56 doubles, 19 home runs and 112 RBI. She was a consensus First Team All-American and GNAC co-Player of the Year in 2025.
"Maleah had a great weekend on both sides of the ball. On the offensive side, she is just flat-out hard to pitch to. She has incredible plate discipline and covers both sides, all planes and all speeds," said WWU head coach
Sheryl Gilmore. "If you put her on base, she runs well and has great hitters behind her. On the defensive side, she takes away the short game element from teams and plays a lockdown corner. She was putting some extra pressure on herself earlier in the year, but it was nice to see her start to settle in and trust herself and her process a little more. She puts in a ton of hard work when she plays her game with the joy and freedom it deserves, there's nothing she can't do."
The GNAC weekly award is the first this season for Andrews, and the fourth of her career to tie for fifth-most in program history.
The Vikings are 22-15 overall and in third place in the GNAC with an 8-4 record through the first half of conference play. WWU remains on the road this weekend with a four-game series at Simon Fraser University beginning Friday at 2 pm at Beedie Field in Burnaby, B.C.
