COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – Led by a pair of opening round 5-under-par scores of 66 from senior Peter Dionne-Yahr and junior Christopher Zamani, the Western Washington University men's golf team opened the GNAC Championships with a six-stroke lead following the first round.

 

WWU shot a team score of 10-under-par 274 on the par 71, 6,466-yard layout in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with the Vikings holding a six-stroke lead over second-place Saint Martin's (-4, 280). The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins with tee times off hole No. 1 at 7:30 am.

 

The Vikings are 11-time champions at the event last earning the title in 2024 and 2022. WWU entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the West Region and No. 25 in the national DII Clippd rankings.

 

Dionne-Yahr turned in a bogey-free round with five birdies in his 5-under-par round and Zamani tied for the first round lead with seven birdies.

 

Junior Rex Wilson is tied for 6th place at 1-under-par 70 and junior Conrad Brown is tied for 12th at 1-over-par 72.

 

In its 18th year as a championship, the 2026 tournament is the first time the 54-hole format will be played over three days. The winner of the championship event receives an automatic berth to the NCAA II West/South Central Super Regional held May 7-9 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, California.
