BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University freshman
Alanna Wirtala has been selected the GNAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 13-19.
Wirtala had a hand in all three of the Vikings victories in the 3-1 road series win at Simon Fraser, going 2-0 with one save in three appearances. Wirtala combined to pitch 15.0 innings, allowing three earned runs for a 1.40 ERA.
"I am proud of the way Alanna competed this weekend. She was steady, efficient and kept a hot SFU offense off balance," said WWU head coach
Sheryl Gilmore. "Lann has been great in every role we've asked her to play this year – whether it's a start or to come in and close the door. She continues to deliver. Her consistency and toughness give our team a chance to win every time she steps in the circle."
In her first collegiate season, Wirtala is 20-9 to lead the GNAC in victories, while posting a 3.62 ERA (88 ER, 170.0 IP) in 35 appearances (20 starts). This marks Wirtala's second GNAC Pitcher of the Week award in 2026.
