BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior
Liam Wall not only bettered his own school record in the discus during competition last week in Southern California but broke the GNAC record in the event to earn the conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week award.
Wall (Tumwater, WA/Black Hills HS) originally set the GNAC mark placing 10th on Thursday at the Pacific Coast Invitational with a throw of 56.77m/186-3, passing the 55.78m/183-0 by Jake Night of Northwest Nazarene in 2019. Wall bettered his own WWU and GNAC record placing 7th in the Beach Invitational on Saturday with a PR mark of 57.40m/188-4.
"After falling short of his goal of reaching NCAA's last year, Liam re-doubled his efforts," said WWU Throws coach
Damien Fisher. "He has done an incredible job leaning into our system by bringing intention to every practice and training session. His work ethic, drive, and positive mindset is a great example for the group. We speak frequently of growth coming from struggle, and Liam is a great example of that in action."
Wall's big performance in Long Beach moved him into the No. 5 spot on the NCAA Division II performance list putting him in an excellent position to qualify for outdoor nationals.
This marks Wall's second GNAC Field Athlete of the Week award this season and fourth of his career.
