COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – The Western Washington University men's golf team battled through rough final round conditions to seal the victory at the 2026 GNAC Golf Championships at Coeur d'Alene Golf Resort.
The Vikings claimed their 12th team title in the 18-year history of the event completing the three-day, 54-hole championship at 3-over-par 855 for a dominating 18-stroke victory over second-place Saint Martin's (+21). WWU has won recent team titles in 2024 and 2022.
Already a virtual lock for the NCAA West/South Central Super Regional entering the postseason as the No. 1 ranked team in the West, the Vikings officially punched their ticket to the regional championships earning the GNAC automatic bid. WWU will play in the NCAA Championships for the 27th consecutive season (every year as an NCAA member) May 7-9 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, California.
"I am thrilled for the team. Coming into this week you never know what can happen, so you just want to make sure you don't take anything for granted and fight until the very end," said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "This week was like many other years where the weather was great, and then it switched … today was a grind and I am really proud of the guys. Our team depth goes beyond the five players that were playing this week, but everyone in the lineup contributed to this team trophy."
With scores higher than the previous two rounds played with picturesque conditions, the Vikings carded a third-round score of 18-over-par 302 for the second-best performance of the day.
Western's individual play was led by four players in the top 10 of the 25-player field. Junior Rex Wilson tied for 2nd place at even-par 213 posting the Vikings best score of the final round at 2-over-par 74. Junior Christopher Zamani tied for 5th place at 2-over-par 215 (66-73-76), junior Conrad Brown finished in 7th at 3-over-par 216 (72-69-75) and junior Nick Ennis was 9th at 6-over-par 219 (74-68-77). Senior Peter Dionne-Yahrplayed in his third and final GNAC Championships tying for 12th place at 8-over-par 221 (66-78-77).
Rasmus Tamker earned individual medalist honors finishing at 1-under-par 212 with rounds of 69-69-74 on the par 71, 6,466-yard layout. Pete Netrnilweerachot of Montana State Billings tied Wilson for runner-up honors at even-par 213 (69-69-75).
