BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's golf team has been announced as the No. 1 seed for the NCAA West/South Central Super Regional, extending its perfect streak of qualifying for the postseason in 27 consecutive seasons.
The Vikings earned an automatic bid to the 20-team super regional by winning its conference-record 12th team title at the GNAC Championships last week. Western's 18-stroke victory in the GNAC Championships at the Coeur d'Alene Golf Resort earned WWU the Athletic Solutions GNAC Team of the Week award sharing the honor with the Simon Fraser women's golf team.
WWU has qualified for the regional tournament every year during the NCAA era since debuting in 1997-98. The Vikings will compete in the three-day, 54-hole event held May 7-9 at The Reserve at Spanos Creek in Stockton, California. The top six teams in the team standings following the final round will secure a spot in the NCAA National Championship May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada outside of Las Vegas.
WWU is part of a tough 10-team West Region that includes No. 2 Chico State (CCAA Champion), No. 3 Cal State East Bay, No. 4 Hawai'i Hilo (PacWest Champion), No. 5 Cal State San Bernardino, No. 6 Simon Fraser, No. 7 Cal State Monterey Bay, No. 8 Cal State San Marcos, No. 9 Dominican and No. 10 Vanguard. The South Central region will also aim for those six qualifying spots, led by No. 1 seed West Texas A&M.
The Vikings had a strong team performance during the regular season to earn the No. 1 seed in the West, finishing in the top three in seven of nine tournaments, with four victories. WWU will be making its second trip to the regional site at The Reserve at Spanos Creek, with the team placing second among a 21-team field at the Visit Stockton DII Invitational February 23-24.
Junior Conrad Brown leads the team with a GNAC-best season scoring average of 70.8 (-1 to par) and was selected as the GNAC Golfer of the Year. Junior Rex Wilson, senior Peter Dionne-Yahr, junior Christopher Zamani and Brown were selected First Team All-GNAC, with Henry Kippenhan earning second-team honors and was voted the GNAC co-Freshman of the Year.
The Vikings lineup for the NCAA West/South Central Regional Tournament will be announced prior to the team teeing off during the second weekend of May.

The top 10 teams in the West and South Central Regions, along with four individuals from each region, make up the 108-player field. The tournament is a 54-hole, three-round competition with 18 holes played each day (Thursday – Friday – Saturday). The top six teams advance to the NCAA II Men's Golf Championships May 18-22 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
