BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Returning to the venue where he originally broke a 52-year-old school record, junior
Maurice Woodring had another standout performance a year later at the UCSD Triton Invitational to earn the GNAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week award.
Woodring placed 2nd out of 20 competitors in the 400m hurdles in a time of 50.69, recording the fastest time in NCAA Division II this season in the event. The junior finished second behind Josiah Johnson of Northern Arizona (50.42).
Almost a year to the date at the Triton Invitational in 2025, Woodring won the event in 51.69 breaking the previous record of 51.74 set by WWU Athletics Hall of Famer Mike Vorce in 1973. Woodring also ran in the 4x400 relay that placed 3rd out of 20 teams running 3:10.64 for the No. 2 mark in WWU history and No. 3 in GNAC history.
The GNAC weekly award is the third in Woodring's career and first this season.
WWU is back in action this weekend competing in the Battle of Sparta hosted by Trinity Western University on Saturday at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, British Columbia.
