BELLINGHAM, Wash. --- Dr. T.H. "Butch" Kamena has been named compliance officer and academic advisor in the athletics department at Western Washington University. He also will continue to handle sports information office duties he has performed on a part-time basis the last 16 years.
Kamena, 35, is in his seventh year as an adjunct instructor in Western's department of political science the last six years. He earned his doctorate degree in political science from University of Calgary in 2001 after receiving his master's degree in political science in 1993 and bachelor's degree in political science and journalism in 1989, both from Western.
Kamena replaces Michael DiMarco, who resigned from the athletic compliance position in September.
A 1984 graduate of Sehome High School, Kamena was the head boys basketball coach at Evergreen Christian High School for two seasons. He was the publicity director for NAIA District 1 women's basketball for three years (1990-93).
