Former Vikings Tracksters Seek World Seesaw Record

Former Vikings Tracksters Seek World Seesaw Record

Sept. 8, 2003

BELLINGHAM, WA - Two former Western Washington University heptathletes are taking inspiration from a "Brady Bunch" episode in an attempt to put themselves into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Brandi Carbee (Bellingham/Sehome) and Natalie Svenvold (Kent/Kent-Meridian), currently assistant coaches in the Western track and field program, will climb on a seesaw in the Fitness for Family Life Building at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup on Thursday at 10 a.m. in an effort to set the world seesaw marathon record.

No official record currently exists, but Guinness will recognize the effort of Carbee and Svenvold if they reach 24 hours. The duo say they hope to last 72 hours or more.

Carbee said the idea came from a 1971 episode of "The Brady Bunch" in which Bobby and Cindy attempted to set the world seesaw record but fell asleep trying.

Carbee, who earned NAIA All-America honors in 1996, is beginning her eighth season as assistant coach at Western. Svenvold in entering her second year as a student assistant.
