  • U.S. champion in 50-mile run in 1975 with American record time of 5:12:41, third fastest time in world
  • Qualified for U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 1972 and 1976.
  • Competed in four world championships - World Masters 25-kilometers (1985), World Masters marathon (1985 and 1986) and World Masters 10-kilometers (1989)
  • Placed among top five at U.S. national championships seven times
  • Averaged over 100 miles per week for stretch of 11-1/2 years
  • Working on streak of running at least one mile each day which began on Feb. 16, 1970
  • Won Seattle, Portland, Ore., and Victoria, B.C. marathons and 16-time champion at Birch Bay Marathon
  • Twice ran second-fastest 100-kilometers in U.S. history
  • Coached high school and collegiate cross country and track for 39 years, 34 at Ferndale High School, four at Whatcom CC and one at Mead High School
  • Seven of his athletes qualified for U.S. Olympic Trials and seven for World Championship meets. Has coached 55 national qualifiers and 30 All-Americans
  • Member of NAIA District 1 championship cross country team at WWU in 1963
