Biography

WWU: Finished her career a .377 hitter (208-for-552) to rank 1st in WWU history ... WWU's all-time home run leader with 45, ranking top-10 in GNAC history ... also holds WWU's highest career slugging percentage (.896) and on-base percentage (.477) ... appeared in 188 games, making 183 starts.

2019 (Senior)
  • Benson concluded her WWU career as the most decorated player in program history, receiving the following accolades during her senior season:
    • Named to NFCA All-American (second team) and First Team All-West Region.
    • Named to D2CCA All-American (second team) and West Region Player of the Year.
    • Selected for Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II Top 10 Player of the Year Finalist.
    • Selected as GNAC Player of the Year.
    • Named All-GNAC First team (unanimous) first basemen.
    • NFCA National Player of the Week of March 25-31.
    • Named MVP of the Tournament of Champions.
    • GNAC player of the Week of Feb. 25-March 3.
    • GNAC player of the Week of March 11-17.
    • GNAC player of the Week of March 25-31.
    • GNAC All-Academic (3.30, Psychology).
  • Hit .448 (56-for-125) to rank first on the team in batting average.
  • Recorded 12 doubles, one triple and 14 home runs.
  • Ranked first on the team for slugging percentage (.896), on base percentage (.567), runs scored (37), hits, runs batted in (44), doubles, home runs, total bases (112) and total plate appearances (164).
  • Rewrote the WWU single-season record book establishing records for batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS (1.463), extra-base hits (27) and home runs.
  • She tied for second on the team for triples.
  • Started in 44 games at first base.
  • Had a .992 fielding percentage (266 chances, two errors).
  • In her four season WWU career (2015-17, 2019), she leaves the program as the all-time leader for batting average (.377), slugging percentage (.692), on-base percentage (.477), OPS (1.169), hits (208), extra-base hits (82), total bases (382), walks (104) and RBI (156), while playing in the second-most games (188).
  • Her 45 career home runs tie the all-time GNAC record and ranks in the top-10 in conference history in career slugging percentage, on base percentage, RBI, walks and total bases.
2017 (Junior)
  • Batted .418 (61-for-146) with 12 home runs, 37 RBI and 44 runs scored, posting a .548 on-base percentage.
  • Unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection.
  • Named to the NFCA All-West Region Second Team.
  • GNAC Player of the Week Feb. 6-12.
  • Started and played in all 53 games.
  • Set WWU single-season record with a .548 on-base percentage and 1.281 OPS (on-base + slugging) with on-base percentage ranking 8th among NCAA Division II leaders.
  • Set WWU career home run record, hitting record-breaking 23rd home run on Feb. 10 as part of 12 home runs during season to tie her own WWU single-season home run record. 
  • Led team in batting average (.418), slugging percentage (.733), on-base percentage (.548), runs scored (44), home runs (12), walks (40), games played (53) and games started (53) while also ranking second in RBI (37), and total bases (107). 
  • Among GNAC leaders, ranked first in walks, second in on-base percentage, second in slugging percentage, tied for third in home runs, fourth in batting average, fifth in runs scored and sixth in total bases.
  • Season totals in batting average (3rd), slugging percentage (2nd), on-base percentage (1st), games started (T-6th), runs scored (T-3rd), hits (10th), total bases (2nd) and walks (2nd) all entered the WWU single-season record books.
  • Reached base safely in 50 of 53 games (pair of 22-game streaks) and had at least one hit in 40 games.
  • Totaled 15 multi-hit games, 9 multiple RBI games and concluded season with a streak of 22 consecutive games reaching base safely.
  • Opened the season with a 14-game hitting streak, the longest hitting streak of the season for WWU.
  • Had .985 fielding percentage with five errors in 338 total chances, ranking second on team in fielding percentage and totaling a team-best 338 putouts.
  • Finished with 15 multi-hit games and nine multiple RBI games.
  • Career: At conclusion of junior season, among WWU all-time career leaders ranks first in slugging percentage (.632), on-base percentage (.448), home runs (31), defensive chances (978), putouts (922) and double plays turned (45). Also ranks second in RBI (112), total bases (270), extra base hits (55) and intentional walks (4 - tied for second) as well as third in batting average (.356), fifth in walks (69), tied for eight in runs scored (88), 13th in hits (152), tied for 13th in doubles (23), and 14th in fielding percentage (.980).
2016 (Sophomore)
  • GNAC All-Academic honoree
  • Unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection.
  • Hit .342 (52-for-152), totaling 45 RBI and 30 runs scored.
  • Set single-season WWU home run record with 12 and drove posted the third-most RBI during a single season in WWU history (45).
  • Had a 16-game hitting streak March 4-29 (.509/27-for-53, 7 HR, 25 RBI) to come within two games of tying the school hit streak record.
  • Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for March 21-27 (.609/14-for-23, 11 R, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 1.961 OPS in 7 games).
  • Also earned GNAC Player of the Week honors March 21-27.
  • Started and played in 45 games.
  • Led team in slugging percentage (.638), total bases (97), RBI (45) and home runs (12). Finished second on team in runs scored (30) and walks (15) as well as third in batting average (.342), on-base percentage (.399) and hits (52). Fourth on team with nine doubles.
  • Homered in three consecutive games (March 25-26) at MSU Billings with a total of four home runs over three games
  • Had .980 fielding percentage with seven errors in 348 chances, posting a team-best 332 putouts.
  • Finished with 15 multi-hit games and 12 multiple RBI games.
2015 (Freshman):
  • Hit .302 (39-for-129), driving in 30 runs and scoring 14.
  • Tied for team lead with 7 home runs and 6 doubles.
  • Played in 45 games and started 41.
  • Finished with 11 multiple-hit games and eight multiple RBI contests.
  • Had .973 fielding average with eight errors in 292 chances, having a team-best 274 putouts.
  • Was 3-for-3, driving in five runs and scoring two with a double and home run in a 10-0 win at Northwest Nazarene on 3/21/15.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played on teams at Kamiakin High School that won three straight Class 3A state championships from 2012 to 2014 with overall record of 71-9 … First-team Tri-City Herald all-Area and Mid-Columbia Conference (designated hitter) all-star as senior … Team co-captain and offensive MVP … Hit .687, driving in 69 runs and scoring 47 … Had 68 hits, including 13 doubles, three triples and 13 home runs, four of them in doubleheader … Besides winning state title, Braves finished 24-2, and were conference co-champs and regional champions … First-team all-conference (first base) as junior on 19-7 state champion squad … Batted .545 with 42 RBI and 31 runs scored … Had 54 hits, including 16 doubles, four triples and six home runs … First-team Columbia Basin Big Nine all-star as sophomore on 28-0 team that won league, regional and state titles … Started and lettered three years … Played on Washington Angels Gold club team for seven years, winning ASA state title in 2011.
