Headed into 5th season as the head coach for the WWU Track & Field and Cross Country programs, overall entering his 15th year as a coach at WWU. Rejoined the WWU track & field program for 2016-17 academic year after a one-year hiatus with Western Oregon University. Has spent time coaching sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, multi athletes and throwers for Vikings over the years.
Stensland and the rest of the Coaching staff have dominated the awards in recent years. Having won all 15 possible GNAC Coach of the Year awards in 2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-26. Stensland has coached over 31 NCAA Division II All-Americans and written training programs for several more during his coaching tenure. During his time as a coach at WWU the Vikings have won 20 GNAC team titles.
Has coached student-athletes to 79 Great Northwest Athletic Conference individual champion titles and student-athletes setting 67 indoor and outdoor school records. WWU has won 20 GNAC team titles under Stensland.
Competed in football at WWU and was three-sport athlete at Ventura Junior College (football, baseball, track and field) … Graduate of Sequim High School.
