Juan Castillo begins his fourth season in 2018-19 assisting the WWU cross country and track & field programs as a volunteer coach.
The Lake Stevens native is a former Viking long distance runner, transferring to Western in the spring of 2012 from Everett Community College. He is a graduate of WWU with a degree in sport psychology and is interested in pursuing teaching as a career.
Castillo still competes in the Northwest region and trains like a competitive athlete to help push the Vikings student-athletes. In 2016 he placed 6th at the USATF Trail Half-Marathon Championships at Lake Padden in Bellingham and finished 62nd at the 2017 USATF Cross Country Championships in Bend, Oregon.
