Jeff Evans is in his 10th year at Western Washington University overseeing all the communications of the department. He was promoted to the Assistant AD for Athletic Communications in February 2024. Evans started his position at WWU in October 2015 after working at the Seattle Mariners as Assistant Director of Baseball Information from 2007-2015, with his primary focus as the main point of contact for baseball information and statistical data.
At Western, Evans has helped lead the department's social media and communication efforts while publicizing the Vikings 15 varsity athletic programs. He has helped cover three national championship teams (2016 & 2022 Women's Soccer, 2017 Women's Rowing), as well as the women's basketball run to the national title game in 2021-22, the volleyball team reaching the national championship match in 2018 and the softball team advancing to the Division II World Series in Florida in 2024.
He was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as one of the top Sports Information Directors across the nation in 2018. During his time at WWU he has promoted several All-Americans, All-GNAC performers and academic award winners. In addition to his duties as the lead for all sports information, Evans also oversees gameday operations for statistics and table crew activities. WIth his extensive background in baseball statistics and scoring platforms, he has been involved on the working group to develop a new baseball/scoring software system for the NCAA.
While at WWU, Evans has also maintained ties with MLB working with the Seattle Mariners PR department in the 2022 postseason and the 2023 All-Star Game.
While with the Mariners, Evans managed public relations campaigns for Cy Young winner Felix Hernandez in 2010 and Gold Glove winner Kyle Seager in 2014, created content to help promote players for All-Star selections and Major League Baseball awards, was editor of the annual media guide and yearbook, developed and served as main editor for the Mariners' official blog and executed the launch of the Mariners Virtual Press Box. He also managed the production and distribution of daily game notes, news releases and historical records to assist the media coverage of the team.
Prior to that, Evans was the Manager of Baseball Media Relations for one season with the Texas Rangers Baseball Club (2006) and was an assistant SID at Arizona State University (2000-05). With ASU he worked closely with the nationally ranked Sun Devil baseball program and promoted several All-Americans. Additionally he served as the Press Officer for the USA Baseball National Team during the summer of 2004, a team that consisted of 21 future Major League players.
Evans graduated from Washington State University in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in public relations from the Edward R. Morrow College of Communications. As an undergraduate, he worked three years in athletic media relations for the Cougars under College Sports Information Directors Association Hall of Famer Rod Commons.
Evans is a 1996 graduate of Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor. He is married to the former Kim Parrish. They have two children, son Charlie, and daughter Caroline.
