BLAINE, Wash. - Forward Ryan Hopp (Jr., Marysville/Marysville-Pilchuck) scored the winning goal in the ninth minute of overtime as Western Washington University defeated Notre Dame de Namur University CA, 2-1, in a men's college soccer game Monday at Pipeline Field.
It was the sixth straight victory for the Vikings, who improved to 6-5-1. NDNU, which fell to 4-8-0, suffered its sixth loss in the last eight games.
Hopp's game winner, his second of the season, found the bottom left corner of the net from 11 yards out. He leads Western with six goals this fall, all of them coming during the winning streak.
Eric Blatt (Sr., Spokane/Ferris) got Western on the board first, knocking in his second goal of the season from 20 yards out. Credited with the assist was Joel Saulter (Sr., Edmonds/Blanchet).
NDNU tied the score at 1-all in the 66th minute on a rebound shot from six yards away by Brian Meherg.
Western had a 17-13 edge in shots and a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Vikings' goalkeeper Ben Dragavon (So., Monroe) was credited with three saves. Western hosts Simon Fraser University in a non-league game Saturday (7 p.m.).
