Box Score

SEATTLE, Wash. - Western Washington University had a seven-game winning streak snapped as it fell 4-0 to Seattle University, ranked No.2 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer game Sunday at Championship Field.

The Vikings fell to 10-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play after matching their best start since 1990.

Seattle, which got two goals from Cameron Weaver, improved to 14-0-1 overall with its seventh straight victory and remained atop the GNAC standings at 4-0-0. The Redhawks are ranked No.1 in the West Region and Western No.4.

Weaver scored the only goal of the first half in the 38th minute off a corner kick by Bobby McAlister.

Seattle scored twice in the first five minutes of the second half, Weaver again finding the net with his sixth goal of the season in the 46th minute and Adam Jensen scoring in the 50th minute. Credited with assists were Pat Doran and Jason Cascio.

The Redhawks' final goal came in the 58th minute as Nick McCluskey scored, an assist going to Alex Chursky.

"They're a great team, definitely, but we did quite a few things wrong," said Western coach Travis Connell. "We didn't defend corners very well and we didn't defend crosses very well, and it cost us big time."

"The first half was pretty even, but in the second they got those quick goals and we didn't handle it very well at all."

It was the 10th shutout of the season for Seattle, goalkeeper Jeremiah Doyle making four saves.

The game was the first of three straight for Western against nationally ranked teams. The Vikings travel to NAIA No.11 Simon Fraser University on Wednesday (2 p.m.) and host NCAA II No.11 Seattle Pacific on Saturday (7:30 p.m.).

"There's definitely no time to mourn this loss," Connell said. "We've got to move on and find some solutions for the next game. But I'm confident that our team has the character to bounce back, even from a disappointing result like today."
