BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University student-athletes will be soliciting donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America at the Vikings' basketball games on Thursday and Saturday on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium. They will be asking every spectator to donate $1 to reach their goal of $1,000.
"In the heat of competition, it is nice to stop and give ourselves some perspective," said Diane Flick, Western's head volleyball coach and advisor to the WWU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. "The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a very worthy cause that brings joy to kids who could only dream of what we have the privilege of doing night in and night out. It is exciting to see the athletics department and the student-athletes working together to make a young person's dream come true."
WWU student athletes will be going through the stands at halftime of the men's game with league-leading Seattle Pacific on Thursday and at the women's contest with arch-rival Central Washington on Saturday.
The program is part of a league-wide effort by student-athletes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
