MANKATO, Minn. - Western Washington University women's pole vaulter Christy Miller (Jr., Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly) tied for 12th at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships on Friday at Myers Fieldhouse on the campus of Minnesota State University.
Miller cleared 11-7 3/4. She had qualified for nationals with a school record 12-4 1/2 at the Last Chance Meet on March 1. That bettered by 4-1/2 inches the previous Viking standard set four years ago.
"She had some good attempts," said Western coach Pee Wee Halsell. "She did okay, but she's not very happy ... I'm proud of her because she got here and a lot of people are at home."
"She competed well, but the breaks didn't go her way. This is only going to make her stronger for both outdoor this spring and next year."
Western's Sarah Porter (Fr., Hockinson) will compete in the women's 5,000 meters at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday.
Porter's best 5,000 time this season is a school-record 17:25.84.
