BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Twenty-two Western Washington University student-athletes have been named recipients of the 2008-09 Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT.

The Vikings honored were Jenny Barton (So., Women's Soccer, Boise, ID/Borah), Shanley Besett (Sr., Volleyball, University Place/Curtis), Lauren Breihof (So., Women's Track & Field, Vancouver/Mountain View), Eric Brill (So., Men's Track & Field, Kent/Kentwood), Kylie Broadbent (Sr., Women's Soccer, Spokane/Lewis & Clark), Gail Butler (Sr., Women's Track & Field, Issaquah), Audrey Coon (Sr., Women's Rowing, Kenai, AK/Kenai Central), Heidi Dimmitt (Sr., Women's Track & Field, Wenatchee), Madeleine Eckmann (Jr., Women's Rowing, Winthrop/Liberty Bell), Joel Grossman (Sr., Men's Soccer, Anacortes), Alex Harrison (Jr., Men's Track & Field, Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway), Greg Kubitz (Sr., Men's Track & Field, Kelso), Kasey Hostetler (So., Women's Soccer, Richland/Hanford), Kathryn Mertens (Sr., Volleyball, Olympia), Matt O'Connell (Jr., Men's Track & Field, Sammamish/Skyline), Tommy Race (Sr., Men's Track & Field, Chelan), Tiana Roma (Sr., Volleyball, Edmonds/Edmonds/Woodway), Calin Schell (Sr., Men's Basketball, Chelan), Danielle Slaughter (Jr., Women's Cross Country, Spokane/Shadle Park), James Turner (Jr., Men's Track & Field, Gig Harbor), Anthony Wiederkehr (So., Men's Basketball, Lakewood), Anthony Zackery (Jr., Football, Spokane/Ferris).

The DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

To receive the honor, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have completed a minimum of two years (six quarters) of college level work, and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
