OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Western Washington University men's golf team is seventh, 10 shots out of first, following a windy and rainy first day at the Saint Martin's University Invitational being held at the Olympia Golf and Country Club.
Monday's second round was cancelled because of potentially dangerous conditions caused by falling tree limbs. Tuesday's final round tees off at 8 a.m.
The Vikings shot 306. Just 10 strokes separate the first seven teams in the field of 15.
Dixie State shot a 12-over par 296 and holds a four-stroke lead over second-place Cal State Stanislaus (300), which won the WWU Invitational held last Friday and Saturday.
Hawaii-Hilo is third at 301, followed by Saint Martin's and Victoria, tied for fourth at 303, and Notre Dame de Namur sixth at 304.
"It was an awful day for golf," said WWU head coach Steve Card (19th year). "We were in survival mode today."
"We're going to have to play well to get back in it. But if the conditions are better, we're definitely capable of doing that."
