SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Western Washington University's Claire Rachor (Sr., Bellingham) moved up five spots to tie for ninth in medalist play and the Vikings placed eighth among 20 teams at the Point Loma Nazarene University Super San Diego Collegiate Golf Championship which ended Tuesday at the Riverwalk Golf Club.
Cal State San Marcus shot a final-round 310, the best of the tournament by five strokes, to win by six strokes with a 36-hole score of 626. The Cougars were third, trailing by one shot, after Monday's opening round.
Placing second was Grand Canyon at 632 (317) and Sonoma State was third at 635 (320). Those two teams were tied for the team lead at 315 following the first 18 holes.
WWU shot 657 (330) to finish one stroke in front of ninth-place Victoria (331=658) and two shots ahead of 10th-place Chico State (329=659).
Rachor shot a 3-over par 75 to finish in a three-way tie for ninth at 11-over 155. It was her first top 10 finish of the season and 14th of her four-year career.
WWU's Anna Bourland (So., Bainbridge) and Kristen Hansen (Fr., Spokane/Mead) tied for 42nd at 167, each shooting 85. Katya Case (Jr., Enumclaw) (85) and Kara Zitzman (Sr., Woodinville/Redmond) (87) tied for 51st at 170.
Victoria's Megan Woodland, though dropping a couple shots Tuesday, led wire-to-wire in taking medalist honors at 5-over 149 (79). She won by one stroke over Sonoma State's Spencer Heller, who was second at 6-over 150 (77).
WWU's next competition is March 2-3 at the Cal State East Bay Pioneer Shootout.
