TACOMA, Wash. - The Western Washington University women's rowing team won one race and had a pair of second-place finishes in the other two finals at the Cascade Sprints regatta Saturday on American Lake.
WWU won the varsity eight finals, was second in the second varsity/novice eight, and also second in the fours final.
The Vikings claimed the varsity eight final in a time of 6:48.0, 3.6 seconds ahead of second-place Humboldt State (6:51.6). UC San Diego was third (6:52.6) in the six-boat field.
In that boat were coxswain Maeghan Callegari (So., Kirkland/Lake Washington), stroke Stephanie Bluhm (Sr., Auburn/Auburn Mountainview), No.7 Olivia Rowland (Jr., Seattle/Holy Names), No.6 Lauren Ramstead ((So., Everson/Nooksack Valley/Creighton), No.5 Olivia Gangmark-Strickland (Fr., Bainbridge), No.4 Maddy Hillier (Sr., Sedro-Woolley (Sedro-Woolley/Skagit Valley CC), No.3 Regan Wessman (Jr., Kirkland/Lake Washington), No.2 Claire Marine (Jr., Enumclaw/Green River), and bow Christine Henie (Jr., Chugiak, AK)
The second varsity/novice eight final was the closest of the three, with Seattle University (7:08.2) edging Western (7:10.8) by 2.6 seconds.
In the fours final, SU won in a time of 7:32.8. WWU-B was second in 7:42.7. WWU-A was fifth in the six-boat field in 7:53.9.
The Vikings also won heats earlier in the day in the varsity eight and the varsity four (lightweights).
WWU returns to action on Sat., April 6 in the Husky Sprints in Seattle.
