ST. GEORGE, Utah - All four of Western Washington University's counting scores were among the top 10 as the Vikings won their first regular-season tournament since 2011, rallying from a four-stroke deficit to win by eight shots at the Dixie State University Women's Golf Invitational Tournament which ended Tuesday on the Blackrock Pointe course at the Sunbrook Golf Club.

The Vikings snapped a string of 26 tournaments without a victory by prevailing in the 12-team field. They finished with a round of 301, the best of the tourney, for a 36-hole total of 610. Their last triumph came on Oct. 7-8, 2011, at the Saint Martin's Invitational.

Point Loma placed second at 618 (313), followed by host Dixie State at 625 (317) and Academy of Art at 634 (326).

Audrey Orem (So., Bellingham) led WWU as she tied for third in medalist play at 5-over par 151 (79). She opened the tourney Monday with a 1-under 72, the best round of her two-year collegiate career.

Three Vikings shot 74 on Tuesday. Kristen Hansen (Jr., Spokane/Mead) and Jenn Paul (Fr., Bellingham) tied for fifth at 152, and Brooke Branigan (So., Bellingham) tied for ninth at 155.

"It feels nice to be bringing home a trophy," said WWU coach Bo Stephan (10th year). "When you haven't won one for a while, you appreciate it a lot more."

With eight holes to go, the Vikings were virtually tied for first, but gained six strokes over the next two holes, both par 5s. Paul had an eagle and Orem and Hansen each had birdies during that stretch.

"It was nice to see how the girls responded in that situation," Stephan said.

Dixie State's Brittney Bisgrove took medalist honors at 2-over 148 (77), one stroke better than runner-up teammate Haley Dunn at 149 (76).

WWU's Anna Bourland (Sr., Bainbridge) placed 31st at 167 (84).

The Vikings close out the fall portion of their season on Oct. 20-21, competing at the Sonoma State Invitational.
