Kristen Hansen (Jr., Spokane/Mead) is third in medalist play and the Vikings are fourth among 12 teams after first-day action Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Golfweek DII Fall Women's Golf Invitational being played on the Meadows Golf Course at the Sunriver Resort.
WWU shot rounds of 304 and 296 for a 36-hole total of 600.
Arkansas Tech is the team leader at 588 (298-290). Dallas Baptist is second at 590 (298-292) and Tarleton State is third at 593 (300-293).
"I like our chances," said WWU coach Bo Stephan (10th year). "We just need to try and continue what we did this afternoon."
Hansen posted rounds of 72 and 71 for a 1-over par total of 143.
"She was great today, super steady," Stephan said of Hansen's play. "She hit her driver well and her putting was solid."
The Vikings' Anna Bourland (Sr., Bainbridge) is tied for 14th at 149 (76-73), Jenn Paul (Fr., Bellingham) is tied for 21st at 151 (76-75), Audrey Orem (So., Bellingham) is 47th at 159 (82-77) and Brooke Branigan (So., Bellingham) is tied for 55th at 165 (80-85).
The medalist leader at 4-under par 138 (69-69) is Arkansas Tech's Rebecka Surtevall. She is four shots better than Tarleton State's Isabell Jimenez Perea at 142 (71-71).
Sunday's final round begins at 9 a.m.
