WWU routs Fresno Pacific, 88-42, at SPU Sodexo Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. - Forward Taylor Peacocke (So., Kenmore/Inglemoor) scored a game-high 20 points as the Western Washington University women's basketball team bounced back for an 88-42 victory over Fresno Pacific University in final-day action Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Sodexo Tipoff Classic held at Royal Brougham Pavilion on the campus of host Seattle Pacific University.

Point guard Jenni White (Sr., Spokane/East Valley) added 15 points for the Vikings, ranked No.21 in the USA Today Sports Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, who evened their record at 1-1 following a 98-88 loss to Humboldt State on Friday.

FPU, which fell to 0-2, got 10 points and 10 rebounds from forward Charde Stevens. Peacocke was 6-of-10 from the field, hitting both of her 3-point attempts, and was 6-of-7 at the free throw line. She also had four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

WWU made 9-of-14 3-pointers, 64.3 percent, with White hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Peacocke, who scored 13 of her points in the first half, made a trey to begin an 18-6 run over a six-minute span that gave the Vikings a 22-11 lead with 12:12 left in the first half. WWU led 38-25 at halftime.

After Stevens got the first basket of the second half, the Vikings went on a 25-1 run over a stretch of eight minutes that put them in front by 37, 65-28, with just under 12 minutes remaining. Their biggest lead was the final score.

WWU's Kiana Gandy (So., Des Moines/Mount Rainier) came off the bench with 13 points, 11 in the second half, and six rebounds. Center Kayla Bernsen (Jr., Moses Lake) had 11 points and three blocked shots for the Vikings.

WWU next hosts the West Region Crossover Classic, playing Azusa Pacific University on Friday, Nov. 21, and UC San Diego on Saturday, Nov. 22. Both games tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
