Post-game Interview - Katie Colard
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Guard Katie Colard (Sr., McCleary/Elma) had a game-high 18 points on 6-of-11 3-point shooting, leading Western Washington University to a 76-47 victory over San Francisco State University in a women's basketball contest on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.
The Vikings improved to 3-2. Guard Taylor Peacocke (So., Kenmore/Inglemoor) added 16 points for WWU.
SFSU fell to 0-3. Michelle Sutton led the Gators with 12 points and five assists, and Brittaney Allison added 11 points.
The Gators held a 27-26 lead late in the first half, but WWU then closed the period with a 13-2 run over the last 3:52 to take a 39-29 lead at halftime.
The gap was still just 10 points, 46-36, with 15 minutes to play, but the Vikings put the game out of reach with 11 straight points, the last six by Peacocke, to take a 57-36 advantage with 9:09 left. The margin was never less than 20 after that.
Jenni White (Sr., Spokane/East Valley) had 13 points for WWU and Kayla Bernsen (Jr., Moses Lake) added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. The Vikings shot 54.2 percent (32-of-59) from the field, including 62.1percent (18-of-29) in the first half.
WWU hosts the Lynda Goodrich Classic this weekend, meeting No.14 University of Tampa on Friday, Nov. 28, and Northwest University on Saturday, Nov. 29. Both games tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
